In honor of its big two-oh anniversary, the Diversity Coalition is inaugurating two new geography-related activities the day of the festival: Diversity Wear and Diversity Where? Festival-goers of all ages are welcome to participate in these free activities (and can win prizes!)
"DIVERSITY WEAR” is an informal fashion show that will occur off-and-on all day, as participants arrive. Those who wish to take part should come to Diversity Day dressed in the national costume or traditional attire of a specific country, region, or peoples (NOT typical, contemporary U.S. fashions). The more creative types, or those who don't want to stick with tradition, can come dressed as a representation or interpretation of the concept “diversity.”
"DIVERSITY WHERE?” is all about location, location, location. Participants guess the locations (city or country) pictured in different photographs that will be hanging on booths and trees during the festival. Every completed entry will be included in a raffle for a prize.
Participants in both activities will be asked to leave their names and phone numbers at the Diversity Coalition booth so that they can be contacted if they win. Fashion show competitors will be asked to pose for a photo, as well, to maintain a record of participants, and to share with the UB for possible publication. Grade school children will need the permission of their parents.
Both activities will continue throughout the day. Fashion participants will be asked to walk along “The Runway to the World” –yeah, the stage– and model their costumes during breaks between performances. (Each competitor will only model their costume on stage once, but of course, can walk around the park all day in costume, if desired.) The audience will vote for their favorite national/traditional costume (People's Choice Award) and for the most interesting/entertaining creation (Creating Diversity Award) at the Diversity Coalition booth.
