Lecture - EXPLORING MONGOLIA: Four Summers of Geologic Research with Students
Feb 15, 2007
Time: 7:45 p.m.
Location: Science 165 - Gaiser Auditorium, Whitman College
Mongolia has the lowest population density on Earth, and is the country farthest from an ocean. The scenery varies from rugged mountains to vast steppes and the Gobi (Desert). The continental climate is broken by a summer rich in wild flowers and birds.
This program includes images of Mongolia’s wildlife, people, towns, homes, livestock, transportation systems, and Naadam.
The focus will be on geology, particularly active faults, freeze-thaw phenomena, and glacial landscapes.
Sponsored by the Blue Mountain Audubon Society & Whitman's Environmental Studies Program.
