Masen Davis, Executive Director of the Transgender Law Center, will give a talk titled, “The Movement of Our Time: LGBT Equality at the Crossroads,” on Thursday, October 10, at 7 p.m., in Maxey Hall on the Whitman campus. Q & A will follow.
Masen Davis
Masen Davis is a nationally recognized leader and spokesperson in the movement for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. He currently serves as Executive Director of Transgender Law Center (TLC), the largest transgender advocacy organization in the world. Under his direction, Transgender Law Center has secured groundbreaking federal protections against employment discrimination for transgender and gender nonconforming people under Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act in Macy v Department of Justice. From sweeping changes to California nondiscrimination law to unprecedented healthcare access initiatives for transgender people across the country, Masen’s leadership has had a tremendous impact on the rights and wellbeing of transgender people in the United States.
In the last month alone, Masen has appeared in the New York Times, CNN, MSNBC, and Rolling Stone Magazine; met with LGBT leaders in Beijing and Shanghai; and presented a panel about LGBT people and the Affordable Care Act at The White House.
Masen lives in San Francisco with his partner Michele and their 7-month old mutt, Bear. He’s a big fan of Walla Walla resident Linda Kirts and the local syrah.
