Vision:

We envision a collaborative future where accessibility, equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice are intrinsic components of our community. A future where:

  • all belong, are enthusiastically welcomed, and our differences are celebrated;
  • access to education and societal support/protection is innate, and;
  • there is greater understanding, mutual empathy, and shared freedom to thrive.

Values:

  • Honesty, mutual respect, and intentionally seeking understanding
  • Courage, curiosity, and collaboration
  • Empowering marginalized and silenced voices
  • Improving accessibility by removing physical and institutional barriers
  • Sharing diverse perspectives
  • Recognizing and embracing cultural differences
  • Acknowledging and working to break unconscious biases
  • Understanding and thoughtfully addressing the historical, political, and economic forces of harm in society to build a more equitable community

Purpose:

To advance equity and social justice, and proactively address discrimination and cultivate belonging by: fostering transformative change and universal respect, listening to and uplifting marginalized voices, healing intergenerational trauma, and cooperatively building an inclusive community where all feel welcome and valued.

Early Years, by Daniel N. Clark

For over 35 years, Race Unity Day had been observed by Baha’is and their friends in the United States and in other countries on the second Sunday in June.

In 1992, I saw a small article in the paper about a Race Unity Day celebration in Walla Walla’s Jefferson Park in the west end, and drove by but didn’t see anyone there.
